- 1. How many vacancies do you have?
-
The 2008 scheme is now closed. Applications for 2009 will open later in the year.
- 2. What is the programme about?
-
This is a new programme launched in 2007 by Logica in partnership with the University of Winchester. Students join the Telco business and study part time at the University, working towards a Foundation Degree in Management (Information Technology) with the option to top up to a full BA (Hons).
Based at our Reading office, you’ll work four days each week for the Telco business and study one day each week at the University. We’ve designed the course to complement and draw on the experience you’ll gain working on real projects. It’s delivered jointly by a highly qualified team of lecturers from the University of Winchester and senior managers from Logica. We pay the course fees.
-
3. Do I need to apply for the scheme via UCAS?
-
No, the scheme is independent of UCAS.
- 4. Where can I find out more about the programme?
-
We are running a series of events in Reading later in the year, where you’ll be able to meet the team from the University of Winchester and Logica.
- 5. Who is the programme designed for?
-
The programme is open to anyone who meets the entry requirements, but we expect it to be of most interest to students considering starting their first degree in September 2009, and who want to combine academic study with real on-the-job experience as a permanent employee of a large IT Services company. There are no age restrictions with the programme.
- 6. What are the entry requirements?
-
• Three Bs at A-Level (or equivalent), or a BTEC National Diploma with Distinction Profile. You should have at least a C grade in both GCSE English and Maths.
• The unrestricted right to work in the United Kingdom (please note that we are unable to sponsor work permits for this programme).
• The ability to join us in September 2009, and work in the Reading office with weekly commutes to the University of Winchester’s Basingstoke campus.
• The willingness to work away from the Reading office, either at another Logica office or on client site, according to business needs.
• The willingness to work for Logica for at least three years after gaining your degree, or to pay back a proportion of the course fees if you decide to leave the company before then. - 7. What happens if I fail a course module or a whole year?
-
While we look for the commitment to work hard and balance work and study, we recognise this is a big step and that some students may struggle with some elements of the course. Regular contact with your tutors at the University and your Staff Manager at Logica will make sure we both spot any problems you might have early. Obviously we’ll treat each case individually, and will work closely with you to support you in case of difficulty.
- 8. Am I guaranteed a job at the end of the course?
-
You will be a permanent employee from day one, and will continue to be employed by our Telco business provided you complete the course successfully.
- 9. What is the salary?
-
The starting salary is £13,000. We’ll also pay your course fees. What’s more, we have a comprehensive flexible benefits package including 25 days’ holiday, a pension plan, home purchase plan, life assurance, health insurance, a relocation allowance, season ticket loans and share ownership schemes.
- 10. What happens on the course?
-
The course is a mixture of academic learning at the University of Winchester and on-the-job training and assessment at Logica. It starts with a two-year part-time Foundation Degree in Management (Information Technology), run jointly by the University of Winchester and Logica and offers the option to top up to a full BA (Hons).
In your first year you’ll get a good grounding in the Application and Management of Information Technology, Systems and Finance, and gain the skills to manage people to achieve results. The second year will focus on Project Management, Change Management and Applied Management. Complete years one and two successfully and you’ll be awarded a Foundation Degree.
Then, if you’d like to turn this into a BA (Hons) Degree, you can do so automatically with one additional successful year of study.
- 11. What sort of things will I be doing at work?
-
You’ll have the chance to work in a number of the areas which are key to the success of our Telco operations. These include programme management, design, testing, business consulting, and content and media. The aim is to get at least six months’ experience of real projects in at least four practices during your first two to three years.
- 12. How do I get to Reading?
-
You can find a map to the Reading office here . We are located close to Junction 11 on the M4. DayTrack bus service connects Green Park (where Logica is based) to Reading Town Centre and the Rail Station. DayTrack makes getting into the heart of the town a whole lot easier, running Monday to Friday inclusive, excluding Public Holidays, every 7-8 minutes between 07:00 and 19:00. You can find details of the bus timetables here .
- 13. How do I apply?
-
We are accepting applications for the programme now, and expect to start running assessment days at the beginning of 2008. Please visit the apply section of the website for more details.
- 14. Can I send you my CV?
-
We select candidates for assessment centres by evaluating their applications against our core competencies. To make sure we have all the necessary information to do this, and that we treat all applicants fairly, we ask everyone to complete our standard application form, so we don’t accept CVs.
- 15. Is there a closing date for applications?
-
We haven’t yet set a closing date for the next programme, but we expect to run our assessment centres in early 2009.
- 16. Do you accept deferred entry applications?
-
No, our next programme will recruit students who wish to join in September 2009. This is an annual programme though, so please visit the website again for details of programmes in 2010 and beyond.
- 17. How quickly will you get back to me once I’ve submitted my application?
-
We’ll acknowledge your application within two working days of receiving it, advise you of your progress as quickly as possible and update you regularly on how your application is progressing.
- 18. How will the assessment process work?
-
If your application is successful we’ll send you full details of the assessment process, which will include interviews, aptitude tests and group exercises. You’ll be able to visit our offices during the process so you can find out more about what we do, ask questions and make a final decision about whether this programme is right for you.
- 19. Do you take people who need a work permit?
-
We welcome applications from anyone who is legally entitled to work in the UK without restrictions. We regret that due to current Home Office guidelines we’re unable to sponsor work permits for undergraduate positions.
- 20. If I’m successful, when will I start work?
-
You’ll join Logica and enroll for your course at the University of Winchester in September 2009.
- 21. Where are you based in the UK?
-
We have offices throughout the UK. The Telco undergraduate programme is based in Reading, although there may be opportunities to work in other offices around the UK or on our clients’ sites as business needs dictate.
- 22. What is the dress code?
-
There is no set dress code. It all depends where you're based and what you're doing. Obviously, if you're on a client site you need to project a certain style. If you're not, then we tend to be pretty informal. It's what you feel comfortable in, within reason.
