Graduate and Industrial Placement programmes
If your application form impresses us, the next stage could well be a short telephone interview. If you’re successful at this, we’ll invite you to a one-day assessment centre.
Find out how to sail through a telephone interview.
We hold most of our assessment centres at our head office in Central London although we may run some in regional locations if appropriate. We reimburse all reasonable travel expenses and can arrange overnight hotel accommodation if you’re traveling a long way.
Our assessment centres start at 9.00 a.m. and finish around 3.00 p.m. There’ll be an interview and a series of exercises plus a buffet lunch where you’ll have the chance to chat to some of our staff.
The key elements of our graduate assessment centre are:
- Competency-based interview
- Group exercise
Along with two to five other candidates, you’ll be asked to read some information and work as a group to come up with a solution to a business related problem. There’s no right or wrong answer – it’s more about seeing how you work in a team. Although the problem is relevant to the way we do business, it is not a technical exercise and you don’t need to know anything in advance.
- Written exercise
This is where we ask you to evaluate some information on a business case study, draw conclusions and make recommendations. As with the group exercise, no advance knowledge is required.
- Psychometric tests
You’ll sit two short tests to assess numerical reasoning and syntax checking. There’s no advance preparation and we’ll give you all the information you need on the day.
- After the event
We usually decide whether or not to make an offer within a few days of the assessment centre. Occasionally we may ask someone to come back for a short second interview, but this is rare.
If we do make you an offer of employment we’ll also invite you back for a 'return visit'. This is you chance to find out more about working for us so you can make an informed decision about whether a career with Logica is right for you.

Telephone interviews: our Top 10 tips
1. Know who’s calling and when
This may seem obvious but if you have telephone interviews scheduled with more than one company, make sure you know which company is due to call and when.
2. Know your application
Your telephone interview will be based on the content of your application form. Make sure you know what’s in it, especially if it’s some time since you submitted it. Ideally print a copy out just before you submit it. However if you don’t have this to hand we can send you an electronic copy. Please e-mail ukgraduates@logica.com to request this.
3. Practice in advance
Make use of any telephone interview workshops arranged through your careers advisory service or even practice with your friends and family.
4. Use bullet points rather than scripts
Using scripted answers does show you’ve prepared – but it can sound very stilted. Try using bullet point prompts that you can then elaborate on instead.
5. Research the company and have your questions at the ready
Treat it exactly the same way as you would a face-to-face interview. Expect to be asked about your knowledge of the company and its business while having the chance to put some important questions of your own.
6. A suitable location
Look for a comfortable, familiar, quiet place that also has good telephone reception, ideally a land line. If you do have to use a mobile phone make sure it has good reception and is fully charged.
7. Dress for work?
You may be the type of person who finds dressing smartly puts you in the right frame of mind for your phone interview – even if the interviewer can’t see you!
8. Choose your posture
Sitting down or standing up? Your posture impacts on the way you sound over the phone. See what gives you the best results.
9. Mirror benefits: smile!
This is a call centre/telesales trick. The expression on your face also impacts on the way you come across.
10. Have your diary handy
Things could move fast after this stage. Have your diary handy to check your availability for the next stages.

Once you submit your application we’ll send you an automated reply to let you know we’ve received your form. If this doesn’t arrive within two working days then please email us at ukgraduates@logica.com so we can make sure there isn’t a problem with your form.
The undergraduate recruitment team from Logica and the University of Winchester will check to make sure you meet our minimum criteria and look at what you’ve told us about your experience to see how you might fit into the scheme. If we think you could be a good match we’ll invite you to the next stage of the recruitment process.
We are aiming to run our assessment centres in spring 2008 and expect to start inviting candidates towards the end of 2007. Your invitation will include full details of the process.
If we offer you a place on the programme we’ll send you a comprehensive offer pack. This includes information on the benefits and terms and conditions of employment, part of which will be an agreement to repay a proportion of your course fees should you decide to leave Logica within three years of completing your degree.
To help you make a final decision about whether or not to accept our offer, we’ll also invite you and your parents to an open evening for successful candidates where you can find out more about the programme and ask any questions.
Decide to join us and you’ll enroll on the part-time course at the University of Winchester in September 2008.
