Training & development

The quality of the training and the opportunities for development are high on everyone’s list when it comes to choosing an employer. And we’re well aware that personal development isn’t just essential for the individual – it’s also vital for the business. That’s why we have a detailed performance management system in place. And it’s also why we won’t plan every last detail of your life for the next two years.

Graduate programme

Not set in stone
Our graduates come to us with a range of skills and work in a variety of roles. So we don't believe in confining them to a rigid training programme.

Beyond the initial foundation modules which introduce you to the business, our approach to training is one of total flexibility. Experience has shown us that the best way to help you develop new skills is to establish where your strengths and interests lie, then build your training programme accordingly.

What’s more, we believe in learning by doing. Rather then spending weeks in a classroom, you’ll start working on real projects straight away supported, where appropriate, with specific technical or business related training.

Formal training
Our clients tell us that our people are our key strength. And they also believe we always look to add value to our relationships with our customers.

So we’ve designed the formal part of our training programme to hone and polish skills that will reinforce these views. Known as InSight, it focuses on the self-management, people, client and teamwork competencies that will make you more effective more quickly.

The courses, along with a range of other formal and self-directed activities, will help smooth your transition from academia to work, enable you to get to grips with our culture, work ethic and key competencies, and benefit not just you but the whole business. Most graduates complete the programme within 12-18 months of joining.

Personal development
We’ll also assign you a staff manager who’ll set your objectives with you and review your performance regularly. Your objectives will help you meet the demands of our business while developing your skills, building on your strengths and addressing any weaknesses you might have.

Your staff manager will also give you longer-term career guidance – working with you to create an individual training plan that features the technical and personal programmes which will help you achieve your aspirations.

Industrial Placement Programme

This is for students who take an industrial gap year as part of a four-year degree. During your 12 months with us you’ll gain a valuable insight into what it’s like to work in a large, customer-facing IT services company and gain experience that will help you to get even more value from your course. Impress us during your time on placement, and you could even go back to university with an offer of full-time employment on our graduate programme when you finish your degree.

You’ll carry out the same kind of work and gain the same kind of client exposure as our graduate recruits. And as well as practical experience, the industrial placement programme gives you a great opportunity to practice your job-searching skills. Your application form is based on the one used for our graduate programme, and you’ll go through the same assessment and interview process as your graduate colleagues. You’ll also build your understanding of our graduate programme as you’ll spend your first four days in the company completing our graduate induction. What’s more, you’ll develop your networking skills still further during an IP networking event organised specifically to make sure you get the most out of your time with us.

Undergraduate programme

Even though you’ll be attending the University of Winchester, you’ll feel part of Logica from day one when you start on our four-day induction. This is where you benefit from a series of presentations, interactive exercises and business simulations so you can learn how we operate, and meet staff from the Telco business so you can start building your networks. In short, you’ll have everything you need to help you to settle in.

Once you complete the induction you’ll start work in the Telco business for four days a week. You’ll join the foundation practice and work in a number of the vertical disciplines which are key to the success of our Telco operations.

These disciplines include:

  • Programme Management (including project finances, tracking and reporting, change management, and project progress tracking and planning)
  • Design (a technical role, including working with Technical Design Authorities on documenting designs, working up performance models, and working with suppliers to collate capability)
  • Testing (another technical role – and a good area to start in if you’re interested in a technical or business consultancy career – which will include executing test scripts, interpreting designs and requirements, and authoring tests)
  • Business consulting (which will include helping organise workshops, facilitating workshops and acting as scribe, helping to write papers and research)
  • Telecoms – Network/ Business Facing and Content & Media (a set of roles similar to business consulting, but which will also include product implementation)

You’ll aim to get at least six months’ experience in at least four practices during your first two to three years. The focus will be on fee-earning work driven by the projects currently underway in the division. Not only will this help you gain a better understanding of our services, it will also help you decide which direction you’d like your long-term career to take.
So, when you’ve completed your degree, you’ll be able to choose a practice in which to carry on building your career. The range of experience will also help build your confidence in client-facing roles – essential for a career in IT consultancy.
